Birds of a Feather

When I was a boy, I was taught to be careful who I made friends with. You can influence your friends and your friends can have a large influence on you. “Birds of a feather flock together” was a common refrain explaining how people of like mind, character and action tend to become friends and work together. With that in mind, take a look at some of the friends of Democrat Party presidential nominee Barack Obama; they include terrorists, convicted criminals, anti-American radicals, and communists. These are not people that are just infrequent acquaintances of Obama, these are people he has worked closely with, some for as many as 20 years:

  • Domestic Terrorist Bill Ayers
  • Convicted Real Estate Tycoon and Fundraiser Tony Rezko
  • Anti-American, Black Liberation Pastor Jeremiah Wright
  • Deposed Fannie Mae Executive Franklin Raines
  • Frank Marshall Davis of the Communist Party USA
  • Resigned and Imprisoned Detroit Mayor, Kwame Kilpatrick

    Domestic Terrorist Bill Ayers:
In 1970, Bill Ayers, along with his wife Bernadine Dohrn, were indicted for inciting a riot and conspiracy to bomb government buildings. Dohrn was convicted; Ayers was not. However, Ayers remains unrepentant, telling The New York Times in 2001, “I don’t regret setting bombs. I feel we didn’t do enough.” In early 1995, Bill Ayers created a foundation called the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, and Barack Obama became the chairman of the board of that foundation. Later that year, in Obama’s first political campaign, Barack held a campaign kickoff and fund-raiser at the home of Bill Ayers. –FOXNews Examines Barack’s Relationship With Bill Ayers

Convicted Real Estate Tycoon and Fundraiser Tony Rezko:
Antoin “Tony” Rezko is an American political fundraiser, restaurateur, and real estate developer in Chicago, Illinois. He was convicted of 16 federal charges in 2006 for using connections to the state boards to demand kickbacks from businesses that wanted to do business with the state. In 2008, Rezko was convicted on several more counts of fraud and bribery. In 2003, Rezko was on Obama’s U.S. Senate campaign finance committee, which raised more than $14 million. Rezko threw an early fundraiser for Obama, which was instrumental in providing Obama with seed money for his U.S. Senate race. Obama has since identified over $250,000 in campaign contributions coming from Rezko. In 2005 Obama purchased a new home in Chicago for $1.65 million, which was $300,000 below the asking price but, claims Obama, represented the highest offer on the property. On the same day, Rezko’s wife, Rita Rezko, purchased the adjoining empty lot from the same sellers for the full asking price. In 2006, Obama purchased a 10 foot wide strip of Ms. Rezko’s property for $104,500, more than twice the assessed value. Obama later acknowledged that the exchange may have created the appearance of impropriety, and said “I consider this a mistake on my part and I regret it.”

Anti-American, Black Liberation Pastor Jeremiah Wright:
I have previously detailed the relationship between Obama and Pastor Jeremiah Wright in my post entitled Barack Obama is Dangerous. But to recap, Obama was a member of his congregation for about 20 years. Wright married Obama and his wife and baptized their children. Wright, a pastor for Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, has made numerous outrageous and anti-American sermons and is known for following Black Liberation Theology.

Deposed Fannie Mae Executive Franklin Raines:
The connection between Barack Obama, Franklin Raines, and ACORN, the radical community activist group that has repeatedly been caught at voter fraud, including registering nonexistent people to vote.-Connect the Dots With Barack Obama,
Franklin Raines made $90 million while he was head of Fannie Mae. After mismanaging that institution into financial crisis, he was deposed as head of Fannie Mae. Liberal Democrats have defended Raines and refused to hold him accountable. Franklin Raines is now a consultant to the Obama campaign on housing of all things! –Do Facts Matter? By Thomas Sowell, National Review Online

Frank Marshall Davis, Communist Party USA:
Barack Obama has an admitted relationship with Frank Marshall Davis, a member of the Communist Party USA (CPUSA). The record shows that Obama was in Hawaii from 1971-1979, where, at some point in time, he developed a close relationship with Davis, listening to his “poetry” and getting advice on his career path. Obama talks about this relationship with his friend “Frank” in more detail in his book, Dreams From My Father. –Obama’s Communist Mentor

Resigned and Imprisoned Detroit Mayor, Kwame Kilpatrick:
Kilpatrick pleaded guilty in September to two felony charges, resigned, and accepted a 120-day jail sentence. On the stage together in May 2007, Kilpatrick introduced by Obama as a “great mayor.” Said Obama about Kilpatrick, “He is a leader not just here in Detroit, not just in Michigan, but all across the country,” an exuberant Obama said of Kilpatrick. “We know that he is going to be doing astounding things for many years to come. I am grateful to call him a friend and colleague, and I am looking forward to a lengthy collaboration.” –After Kilpatrick, GOP will seek to link Obama to Michigan’s poor governance.

  • Conclusion
Based on who Barack Obama chooses to associate with, learn from and go to for advice, I have serious concerns about his judgment and the direction he will take this country. Obama is clearly a far left leaning liberal who flirts with socialism that will destroy the freedoms we hold dear. If you are “hoping” for “change” with Barack Obama, you may get it and you will get it in the form of more dirty politics and more scandals than even the Clinton administration. You will get a country that will be changed into a socialist republic in the way Barack Obama and his buddies want to make it. And in the process, our freedoms will be eroded, taxes will be raised, our security will be compromised, and the prosperity this nation has always enjoyed will be in jeopardy.

Obama’s Record on Abortion: He Supports It Whenever, Wherever and For Whomever

I disagree with Senator Barack Obama’s political stance on just about every issue from the size and scope of government to foreign policy. But even if you threw out all those other reason’s, I would still have to oppose him on one issue of immense proportion: Abortion.

The Democratic presidential candidate was recently asked “When does a baby get human rights?” And this was his response: “Well, uh, you know, I think that whether you’re looking at it from a theological perspective or, uh, a scientific perspective, uh, answering that question with specificity, uh, you know, is, is, uh, above my pay grade.” See the article in the Boston Herald.

You can see the hesitation in his voice and how uncomfortable he is with this issue. And rightly so, he has a horrendous record on the subject. Basically, he supports abortion whenever, wherever and for whomever. Let’s examine his record:

  • Obama voted to allow minors to cross state lines for abortion, and he voted against notifying parents of minors who get out-of-state abortions. Barack Obama on abortion from
  • When a state Senator in Illinois, Obama never supported the Illinois Born Alive Infant Protection Act. The Born Alive Infant Protection Act is legislation that requires doctors to give medical attention to infants that survive a botched abortion. Barack opposed it and here are Obama’s 10 reasons for supporting infanticide. By the way, this law was passed on the national level in 2002, before Obama was elected to the US Senate.
  • NARAL (the National Abortion Rights Action League) gave Barack Obama a score of 100% in 2005, 2006, and 2007 for his pro-abortion congressional record. On a side note, not knowing what NARAL stood for, I attempted to go to their Web site, but the Church internet filters preventing me from even going to the site. I had to look up the acronym on Wikipedia.
  • Obama has been rated 0% by the NRLC (National Right to Life Committee). A score of 0% – 15% indicates a pro-abortion stance, 16%- 84% is a mixed record on abortion and 85%-100% is a pro-life stance.
  • As I person who supports life and opposes abortion on-demand, I cannot support Barack Obama. And honestly, I do not understand how any pro-life, anti-abortion person could support him.

Reagan’s Four Essential Economic Freedoms Contrasted to Obama’s Economic Plan

I have often thought that political freedoms and economic freedoms are connected: you can’t have one without the other, or at least, not for long. On this very subject, I recently came across a speech by Ronald Reagan from July 3rd, 1987:

Inextricably linked to these political freedoms are protections for the economic freedoms envisioned by those Americans who went before us. While the Constitution sets our political freedoms in greater detail, these economic freedoms are part and parcel of it. During this bicentennial year, we have the opportunity to recognize anew the economic freedoms of our people and, with the Founding Fathers, declare them as sacred and sacrosanct as the political freedoms of speech, press, religion, and assembly. There are four essential economic freedoms. They are what links life inseparably to liberty, what enables an individual to control his own destiny, what makes self-government and personal independence part of the American experience.

First is the freedom to work — to pursue one’s livelihood in one’s own way, to choose where one will locate and what one will do to sustain individual and family needs and desires.

Second of those freedoms is the freedom to enjoy the fruits of one’s labor — to keep for oneself and one’s family the profit or gain earned by honest effort.

Third is the freedom to own and control one’s property — to trade or exchange it and not to have it taken through threat or coercion.

Fourth is the freedom to participate in a free market — to contract freely for goods and services and to achieve one’s full potential without government limits on opportunity, economic independence, and growth.

I thought it would be fun to contrast Reagan’s economic principles with those of Barack Obama. Each of the following comes directly from Obama’s Web site.

Reagan’s Economic Principles Obama’s Economic Plan
The freedom to work “Extend and Expand Unemployment Insurance.” More incentives to NOT work.
The freedom to enjoy the fruits of one’s labor “$20 billion in new tax rebates.” Money for nothing. If the rebate went to actual tax payers, 97% of it would have go to the rich. But Obama’s proposal is to give this money to “America’s workers” He doesn’t clarify exactly who that is, but it sounds like a big redistribution of wealth, i.e. enjoying the fruits of someone else’s labor.
The freedom to own and control one’s property “Barack Obama’s Plan to Jumpstart the Economy”: $50 billion in new government spending. And bigger government, of course, means less control you and I have over our own property, including our income, which Obama will be taking more of to pay for his big government programs.
The freedom to participate in a free market “a $10 billion Foreclosure Prevention Fund” and “$10 billion in Relief for State and Local Governments Hardest-Hit by the Housing Crisis.” This is more meddling by the government and anything but free market economics.

Wow, what a contrast! It’s too bad the Republicans didn’t nominate a candidate with Reagan’s views on economics. I guess John McCain will have to do; he is certainly much better on economics than Barack Obama.

Tax Cuts Are the Solution, Not the Problem

I was listening to Rush Limbaugh recently and he had a caller who was a Barack Obama supporter. The caller, like many Obama supporters, was having a lot of trouble expressing what Obama had done to qualify him to be president. Eventually, the caller said that he liked Obama because he was going to sock it to the rich and raise their taxes. Indeed, Obama, on his official Web site, says the problem with our economy is “Tax Cuts for Wealthy Instead of Middle Class.”

This is a common mantra of liberal Democrats, that Republicans give tax cuts to the rich at the expense of the middle class. Unfortunately for the Democrats, though, this statement couldn’t be more false. A recent Wall Street Journal article discussed the impact of the 2003 Bush tax cuts. It says “The data show that the 2003 Bush tax cuts caused what may be the biggest increase in tax payments by the rich in American history.” After the Bush tax cuts, “Americans with an income below the median paid a record low 2.9% of all income taxes, while the top 50% paid 97.1%.”

The WSJ article further states that, “The idea that this has been a giveaway to the rich is a figment of the left’s imagination. Taxes paid by millionaire households more than doubled to $274 billion in 2006 from $136 billion in 2003. No President has ever plied more money from the rich than George W. Bush did with his 2003 tax cuts.”

However you want to define them (top 50% or top 1% of earners), and however you want to look at what they pay (in dollars or percentages), the rich are already paying the vast majority of taxes in the US. If taxes are raised much more on the rich, as Obama wants to do, half the country will end up shouldering the entire tax burden of our country, supporting the other half of the country who would be paying no tax. This is a very troubling trend, and it’s very troubling that one of our major political parties supports such a policy of inequity and disrespect to private property. The money people earn, great or small, belongs to them, not the government. Not to mention the fact that Obama’s tax increases would cripple our economy. Morally and economically, the smart thing to do is lower taxes, not raise them.

Obama Wants to End the Age of Oil and Send Us Back to the Stone Age

About a week ago, Barack Obama said, “we must end the age of oil in our time.” (see

This seemed like an irrational statement, and it got me thinking about what is oil? What is made from it? And why would Obama want to get rid of oil and everything that is derived from it?

Oil or petroleum “is a naturally occurring, flammable liquid found in rock formations in the Earth consisting of a complex mixture of hydrocarbons of various molecular weights, plus other organic compounds.” -

Petroleum-based fuels (gas, diesel, jet fuel, etc) most people know about; they make modern transportation possible. But let’s take a look at a partial list of petroluem-based products, many of which most people do not realize come from oil:
    Natural gas
Car bumpers, light covers, and other parts
    Lubricating oils and grease
Heating oil we use to keep our homes warm
    Moisturizers and lotions
    Paints, lacquers, and printing inks
Paraffin wax used in packaging, candles, matches, and shoe polish
Asphalt we use to pave our driveways and roads
Linoleum and other laminate flooring products
    Shingles for roofs
Plastics found in a plethora of everyday objects:
    -CDs and DVDs
-bottles and containers of every kind
    -scotch tape
    -shower curtains
    Synthetic rubber
Synthetic fibers found our clothing, fibers and textiles
Vinyl (for fences, furniture upholstery, etc)
Styrofoam for cups, packaging material, etc.
PVC pipe for indoor plumbing, sprinklers, etc.
    Nylon rope
    Computer monitors, printers, keyboards
    Plastic film/saran wrap
    Microwavable packaging
    Contact lenses
Teflon used on most kitchen pots and pans
    Many medical implant applications
    Glues and adhesives
    Ceramic cups, plates and bowls

The list could go on and on, but as you can see, nearly every modern convenience and technology that has improved our lives over the last 100 years has had petroleum or an oil-based product as a key component. And this is what Obama wants to put an “end” to?! Because of an irrational religious adherence to the global warming hoax, Obama, the Democrats, and environmentalist wackos have declared war on oil and they have made it the focus of evil in the world.

It is irrational to have such animosity toward a naturally occurring substance in the earth. And if Obama and the environmental wacko leftists get their wish to “end the age of oil” they will be throwing us back into the 19th century. We’d all be driving a horse and buggy and living in log cabins…I take that back, the liberals probably wouldn’t let us cut down trees to build log cabins. Well, I’d prefer to stay in the 21st century and enjoy the modern conveniences that God has blessed us with. And despite what Obama and the leftist environmentalists say, there is still plenty of oil left in the earth, much of it right here in the United States of America. Drill here. Drill now.

    Barack Obama Is Dangerous

Not to re-hash old news (a very busy last few months has prevented me from staying current on my blog), but the more I learn about Barack Obama, the more dangerous I realize he is.

I heard this quote from Barack Obama only today. It’s a quote from his book, “Dreams from my Father”, where Obama quotes part of a Reverend Jeremiah Wright speech where he says that “white folk’s greed runs a world in need.” (Listen to the audio on YouTube). In this YouTube clip, Obama explains that the title of his book, the Audacity of Hope, was also inspired by the Rev. Wright. This is the same Rev. Wright who said the following:

  • A sermon in April 2003, Wright said: “The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes three-strike laws and wants them to sing God Bless America. No! No No! God damn America … for killing innocent people. God damn America for threatening citizens as less than humans. God damn America as long as she tries to act like she is God and supreme.”
  • In another speech, made in the days after the terrorist attacks of September 11th, Wright said, “We bombed Hiroshima. We bombed Nagasaki. And we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon and we never batted an eye…We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because of stuff we have done overseas is now brought back into our own backyard. America’s chickens coming home to roost.”
  • The pastor has also said: “The government lied about inventing the HIV virus as a means of genocide against people of color.”

Outrageous stuff, and this was Barack Obama’s spiritual advisor for 20 years. He married Barack Obama and he baptized their kids, but now, conveniently, Obama has denounced the Reverend and separated himself from Wright. But that doesn’t change the fact that this pastor was a major influence on Obama and likely indicative of Barack’s own way of thinking.

On other, more recent news, Barack is again showing how dangerous he would be in the area of foreign policy. Early this week, on July 9, 2008, Fox News reported, “Iran launches nine long- and medium-range missiles, including one that could reach Israel, U.S. bases.” And right on queue, Obama was quoted the same day saying, “Iran is a grave threat. It has an illicit nuclear program. It supports terrorism across the region and militias in Iraq. It threatens Israel’s existence.” Fine and dandy, but this was not what Obama was saying just two months earlier. True to his campaign theme of “change”, he had a completely different stance in May 18, 2008 when Barack Obama said, “I mean think about it. Iran, Cuba, Venezuela, these countries are tiny compared to the Soviet Union. They don’t pose a serious threat to us.”

So which is it Barack Obama, does Iran “not pose a serious threat” or is Iran “a grave threat”? I guess it all depends on which way the wind blows. This man would be a disaster as our president; he is dangerous, and I haven’t even touched on the danger posed by his liberal, big-government agenda. (We’ll save that for another day.)

  • Profits Are Not Obscene and Government Distorts the Market

In the wake of congressional, witch-hunt hearings with oil executives regarding the price of gas, John McCain has chipped in to display his liberal side once again:

“I don’t like obscene profits being made anywhere–and I’d be glad to look not just at the windfall profits tax–that’s not what bothers me–but we should look at any incentives that we are giving to people, that or industries or corporations that are distorting the market.” From Michelle

For 1: Profits are not obscene. As W. Cleon Skousen puts it profits are “the means by which production of goods and services is made worthwhile.”

For 2: Government intervention is what distorts the market, not law-abiding companies. In a free market, oil companies would be free to drill for and refine the oil we have at our finger tips. Government regulations prevent this free market activity and distort the market.

John McCain wants to punish oil companies for running efficient operations that turn a profit. And what is this government intervention going to do? Only make the problem of high gas prices even worse. And by putting additional tax burdens on oil companies, John McCain will be taking away dividends (profits) from every day Americans who’s 401Ks are invested in these companies (43 percent of oil and natural gas company shares are owned by mutual funds).

Of course, McCain’s policy is sounding like his good buddies int he Democrat party, like Barak Obama, who’s solution to the energy problems is to make do with less: “We can’t drive our SUVs and, you know, eat as much as we want and keep our homes on, you know, 72 degrees at all times, whether we’re living in the desert or we’re living in the tundra, and then just expect every other country is going to say OK.”

Remind me again how a liberal like McCain got the GOP nomination? Sure McCain is better than the Democrat Party nominee, but not by much. Isn’t there a better choice? Where is the conservative running for President, who believes in small government and free market solutions?

Reasons to Be Proud of America…For Those Who Find It Difficult

On February 18, 2008, Michelle Obama, presidential candidate Barack Obama’s wife, was quoted as saying that “for the first time in my adult lifetime, I’m really proud of my country … not just because Barack has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change.” She went on to say that “I have been desperate to see our country moving in that direction and just not feeling so alone in my frustration and disappointment.”

Speaking before a crowd at UCLA, Michelle Obama said further, that “[Economically], things have gotten progressively worse throughout my lifetime, through Democratic and Republican administrations, it hasn’t gotten better for regular folks … Barack Obama is the only person in this who understands that. That before we can work on the problems, we have to fix our souls. Our souls are broken in this nation.”

    So if I may summarize…

  • From 1982 through 2007 (25 years of her adult life), Michelle Obama was “frustrated”, “disappointed” and never “really proud of her country.”
  • During that time period, “things [in this country] have gotten progressively worse”
  • And because of this downward progression of this country over the past 25 years, the “soul” of this nation is broken and needs to be fixed (by Barack Obama). Both Michelle and Barack Obama have defended the remarks, saying they were taken out of context and they have tried to further clarify the pride they have for their country. Yet just this week, Barack Obama has again declared his lack of pride in his country. In a speech on Wednesday, Senator Obama said “If [a] child should ever get the chance to travel the world, and someone should ask her where is she from, we believe that she should always be able to hold her head high with pride in her voice when she answers, ‘I am an American.’ That is the course we seek. That is the change we are calling for.” If being able to proudly declare that you are an American is a “change” for Barack Obama, it is clear that he doesn’t currently feel that way.Well Barack, let me tell you, this country is the greatest nation on earth, the freest nation on earth, the most blessed nation on earth. When there are crises around the world, this nation and its citizen come to the rescue. Our constitution is a model for most countries around the world. We liberated Europe twice from fascist armies. We’ve liberated 50 million people from tyranny in Iraq and Afghanistan (which you have opposed). We are the economic and military super power of the world because of the greatness and goodness of the people of this country, a country which you repeatedly express that you are ashamed of. Well I’m proud of this country, and I’ll continue to be proud of this country as long as the people of this nation uphold their constitution, seek to spread liberty and fear the Almighty God.

So, for those who find it difficult, here are just a few reasons to be proud of the United States, over the past 25 years:

  • 1983: the Internet is born. The first TCP/IP network is developed by Robert E. Kahn, Vint Cerf and others.
  • 1987: “Tear down this wall” was the famous challenge from United States President Ronald Reagan to Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev to destroy the Berlin Wall.
  • 1989: Berlin wall comes down and communism begins to crumble.
  • The first patent for LASIK was granted by the US Patent Office to Gholam A. Peyman, MD on June 20, 1989.
  • 1991: The US Armed Forces liberate Kuwait after an attempted takeover by Suddam Husein and Iraq.
  • 1996: in the wake of Hurricane Mitch, the US donates $70 million to Honduras, as well as aid from US troops and private organizations
  • 2001: In the face of terrorist attacks, Americans come together like never before. Firefighters lose their lives in the twin towers, millions of Americans flood the blood banks, brave crew and passengers overpower the hijackers on United flight 93.
  • Within weeks of the launch of the Iraq war in 2003, the US was re-opening schools. Since then, teacher salaries were raised from $5 a month to an average of $300 a month. USAID trained 33,000 high school teachers in effective and modern classroom management, and distributed school supplies and textbooks to more than 5 million students.
  • 2004: US comes to the aid of Southeast Asia after the Tsunami that hit coast of Sumatra, Indonesia and killed hundreds of thousands, donating $950 million in government aid and countless millions of privately donated aid
  • 2005: The American Red Cross, Southern Baptist Convention, Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, Service International, and many other charitable organizations provided help to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. In addition to the thousands of hours of volunteered labor, these organizations raised and donated over $4.25 billion.
  • Real GDP 1982 = $5 Trillion. Real GDP 2007 = $11 Trillion.
  • GDP per Person 1982 = $23,000. GDP per Person 2007 = $36,000
  • Life Expectancy 1982 = 75. Life Expectancy 2007 = 77.
  • So you see, Barack and Michelle Obama, this country, and the people of this country, have done much to be proud of in the last 25 years. The list above could go on and on. Readers, feel free to contribute to the list through your comments: What are some more reasons you can think of to be proud of this nation since 1982?

    From Project Vote Smart
-Obama voted against repealing the estate tax (or death tax) because, he says, it only benefits the wealthiest Americans
-He voted for the SCHIP (State Children’s Health Insurance Program) bill which would have provide government health care to children up to age 25 and poor families up to $80,000 in yearly income.
3A. Lower Taxes From Remarks on Tax Fairness
-Obama believes that the current tax system “disproportionately benefits the wealthiest
Americans” (even though the wealthier you are the higher tax rate you pay).
-Obama opposes “the Bush tax cuts” because it “gave the wealthiest 1 percent of Americans a tax cut that was twice as large as the middle class.”
-yet he says he would “reward work by providing an income tax cut of up to $500 per person” which sounds awfully similiar to the Bush tax cuts.
-Obama supports “cutting taxes for working people, homeowners, and seniors”
3B. Smaller Government From Obama’s website
-Finding a right in the constitution that I have never seen, Obama says “every American has the right to affordable health care,” and proposes a massive “new national health plan.”
-Obama opposes any legislation he considers “threats to Social Security and Medicare.”
-“I am absolutely determined that by the end of the first term of the next president, we should have universal health care in this country.”

Now this a bit of a surprise to me, but Barack Obama comes out with a grade point average of 0.56, even lower than Hillary Clinton. It turns out that Barack and Hillary score exactly the same (dismally low) on Strengthening the Family and Economic issues. But Barack’s record on defense and national security issues is far worse than Hillary’s (and her’s is not very good either).
